PARENTHOOD IS LIFELONG
"Every month, Martín's parents took a trip to visit Grandma and returned on the same train the next day. One day, Martín asked, "I'm grown up now. Can I go to Grandma's alone?"
After a short discussion, his parents agreed. They stood with him as he waited for the train to depart, offering final pieces of advice through the window. Martín, feeling confident, reassured them, "I know, I’ve heard this a thousand times."
Just before the train left, his father leaned in and whispered, "Son, if you feel bad or insecure, this is for you," slipping something into his pocket.
Now, Martín was on his own for the first time, sitting on the train just as he had wanted. At first, he admired the passing landscape, but soon he became uneasy. Strangers bustled in and out, creating noise, and one person even looked at him with sympathy.
The conductor made comments about him being alone, and gradually, fear crept in. He felt trapped, unsure of himself.
With tears in his eyes, Martín remembered the item his dad had placed in his pocket. Trembling, he pulled out the piece of paper and unfolded it. It simply read, "Son, I'm in the last train car."
This is how life works. At so useful point we must allow our children to explore new experiences and face challenges on their own. But, as parents, we always remain close, in the background, ready to support them if they are afraid or encounter obstacles. We stay near them for as long as we live, watching over them, quietly ready to help."
